2027: Turaki Faction Echoes Makinde’s Stance, Kicks Against Tinubu’s Endorsement

By Akanni Toba

The  National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has categorically stated that it won’t endorse President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid.

The faction noted that it would be improper for an opposition party of PDP’s standing to support Tinubu who is seeking reelection on the platform of  the ruling party.

The National Publicity Secretary of Turaki-led faction, Ini Emembong made this known while featuring on Wednesday’s edition of ‘The Morning Show’ on Arise Television.

“It is improper, immoral, unjust, and unfair for an opposition party of the standing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to endorse the candidature of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC,” Ememobong said.

“It is impeccably clear that we will not endorse Tinubu. We are not endorsing the president. We have said so. In fact, in every discussion leading up to the reconciliation, whether in public or private, we have insisted that the reconciliation is meant to strengthen the PDP as an opposition party.” he added.

The PDP is embroiled in internal crisis which has plagued the party for over three years.

As a result of the crisis, the party has been fragmented into two factions. The Turaki camp is backed by governors  Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Bala Mohamed of Bauchi.

Makinde has never hidden his aversion to the idea of the PDP working for the actualization of Tinubu’s reelection bid.

In December 2025, Makinde expressed shock at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike’s plan to, according to the Oyo helmsman, “hold the PDP” for Tinubu in 2027.

The Oyo governor stated that his former ally was free to pitch his tent with anyone without forcing others to join him.

“I was in a meeting with President Tinubu, Nyesom Wike, and others when Wike volunteered to hold the PDP for Tinubu against 2027, and I was in shock. Wike can support the president in 2027, but I will not,”  Makinde said.

The Oyo State governor also recently stated that anyone in the PDP supporting Wike has agreed to support  Tinubu in 2027.

He added that Wike’s camp is anti-people and enemy of democracy.

Meanwhile, the  Abdullahi Mohammed-led group which has the support of the FCT minister has not reacted to the statement from the Turaki’s camp.

Despite the crisis rocking the party, Turaki has assured members of the PDP that the opposition party would field candidates for all elective positions in 2027.

Perhaps in a bid to fulfill his promise, the factional chairman said on Wednesday that efforts are ongoing to reconcile the factions in the party.
