Tears As Brig Gen Braimah, Others Killed By Terrorists Laid To Rest In Borno

The sight of the grief-stricken relatives  of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail and other soldiers present at the burial ceremony of their loved ones would wear down the most stoical of resolves.

 

The caskets bearing the remains of the fallen soldiers were draped in Nigerian flag adding to the emotionally charged atmosphere of the solemn event as the  Nigerian Army on Wednesday buried  their valiant members who lost their  lives  during a recent attack by insurgents in Borno State.

 

The officers and men were laid to rest at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri with full military honours.

 

The fallen soldiers were killed on April 9 when suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters launched coordinated attacks on military positions in Benisheikh, a strategic town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

 

The details of the interment were contained in a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the the Nigerian Army.

 

According to the post, the Army described the  burial ceremony as solemn and emotionally charged.

 

 

“In a solemn and emotionally charged ceremony, the nation on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, laid to rest late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

 

“The burial, held at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State, was marked by deep sorrow, honour, and reflection,” the statement read.

 

 

It added that the fallen soldiers were accorded full military honours in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

 

 

“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity, and security of Nigeria,” it said.

 

The ceremony was attended by many prominent Nigerians including  Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers.

 

While taking turns to speak at the event, those present at the event emphasized the magnitude of the loss inflicted on the Nigerian Army stressing that the deceased paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.

 

Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while citations detailing their service were read before their families.
