A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he won’t keep silent in the face of injustice in the coalition party.
Amaechi noted that his silence in the past led to his forced exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which he alleged was orchestrated by Patience Jonathan, wife of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
The ex-minister said they chased him out of the PDP and handed over the political structure of the party in Rivers State to others.
Amaechi made this claim while featuring in an interview with Channels Television on Television.
He said, “I was literally chased out of the PDP by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife.
“They took over the political structure in Rivers State and chased me out, and the same with APC.
“I will never keep quiet in the face of injustice, when I do that they start planning to make me irrelevant.
“That happened in PDP with Jonathan chasing me out and handed over the structure to other people and my offence was because I was the Chairman of Governors Forum.
“I just don’t agree with some of the policies Jonathan was pursuing, I had sat down with Jonathan several times on the issues of disagreement and what the policies are.
“The first day Tinubu won primaries, I told him that I don’t agree with him.”
Amaechi came to the limelight when Nigeria returned to civilian rule in 1999 when he became the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He is recognized as one of the youngest and longest-serving state speakers in Nigerian history having assumed office at the age of 35.
Amaechi would later become the governor of the state after a prolonged legal battle with Celestine Omehia
He would later fell out with one of his allies and successor in office, Nyesom Wike who enjoyed a robust relationship with Jonathan’s wife during his husband’s reign as president, a development that altered the political dynamics in Rivers State.
