In a strategic move to thwart President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027, all the major  opposition parties in the country have agreed to join forces to give Nigeria’s helmsman a run for his money.

Kabiru Tanimu-Turaki, a factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, disclosed this on Saturday, saying we have “agreed to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections”

The PDP chieftain spoke at the National Opposition Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where leaders from multiple political parties gathered to discuss strategy ahead of the next election cycle.

Clarifying the reason for the move, Turaki noted that the move was aimed at strengthening the opposition’s chances at the polls, despite what he described as alleged attempts to ensure President Bola Tinubu emerges unopposed within the ruling party.

He said the opposition was determined to work together despite what he described as “onslaughts and machinations” allegedly aimed at positioning President Bola Tinubu as the sole candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

He said, “Despite the onslaughts and machinations of the ruling party, the APC, to ensure that President Bola Tinubu emerges as the sole presidential candidate in 2027, we shall field candidates and contest the 2027 presidential and other elections.”

He continued, “Three, that we shall work towards fielding one presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. We shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties to rescue our nation and our long-suffering masses,”

Among those present at the event were former Vice-president Atiku Abubakar, former governor of Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of Sokoto Aminu Tambuwal etc.
