Almost a day after exiting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has broken his silence on why he and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, jointly quit the coalition movement.

Kwankwaso and Obi dumped the ADC to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to use the platform to pursue their political dream in the 2027 election.

The ex-minister spoke after the National Chairman of NDC,  Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, had represented the party’s membership cards to him and his fellow defector.

Speaking after the event Kwankwaso urged his supporters to register with the NDC ahead of the deadline for registration of party members, describing the party as one whose ideologies and beliefs align with their own.

According to a post made by Kwankwaso on Monday, the ex-minister expressed confidence that NDC can rescue Nigerians.

“Yesterday, we took a bold and decisive step by formally joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),” he wrote.

“At the residence of Senator Seriake Dickson in Abuja, I announced that our decision stems from a deep commitment to democratic values.

“We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential.

“I therefore call on all our dedicated supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join the NDC and stand with us in this renewed fight for good governance and true democracy.”

Recall that Kwankwaso, who is a leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, joined  joined ADC on March 30 after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform on which he contested the 2023 presidential election.

Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, ex-governor of Anambra, joined the NDC on Sunday after quitting the ADC over uncertainties regarding the party’s future following the April 30 ruling of the supreme court.
