NDC Has Zoned Presidential Ticket To The South But Primaries Will Be Conducted — Galadima
Buba Galadima, a staunch ally and political associate of ex-Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, says.that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticketl to the south.
Galadima made this disclosure on Monday while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, adding that NDC would submit its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 5 or 6.
“Once we do that, we are good to go,” he said.
Asked about the NDC’s position on zoning and the mode of candidate selection, he said, “we have zoned the party’s presidential candidature to the south. No missing votes. We’ve zoned it to the south.”
Galadima also noted that the NDC would go for primary elections to choose its candidates instead of adopting consensus stand bearers.
Peoplestemplate had reported how the much-talked about coalition suffered a setback on Sunday following the decision of former Anambra governor, Peter Obi and former Kano governor and Kwankwaso announced their exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The duo left ADC for NDC citing the former party’s lingering crisis for their decision.
Recall that prior to Obi’s defection, all opposition political parties held a meeting in Ibadan where they all agreed to field one candidate to give President Bola Tinubu a run for his money in the 2027 election.
But Obi is said to be displeased that zoning was not debated at the gathering.
Obi has consistently demanded zoning of the presidential ticket since he joined the ADC last year, arguing that failure to address equity and power rotation weakens the coalition and fuels distrust among stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the national publicity secretary of ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that the excuse given by Obi and Kwankwaso for leaving the coalition is flimsy adding that the ex-Anambra governor dumped the coalition movement for NDC because he wants a party that will hand him its ticket on a silver platter.
