Photos, Names On Membership Cards Edited To Boost Party Ranks, Woman Alleges Irregularities In NDC’s Primaries

A woman believed to be a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the just concluded primaries of the party were riddled with malpractices.

The woman, whose name is not known, made the allegation in a viral video barely a day after the opposition party primaries held on Saturday.

According to her, there was no transparency in the conduct of the exercises which produced candidates who will fly the party’s flag, vying for various elective positions across the country.

“There are so many people here who are not party members. They just mobilised them, edited the membership cards for them and asked them to come and vote. They collected so many  peoples photographs. They edited different names and photos and they want them to come and vote in this election. And we are saying, ‘No!’. No verification, no election. Because we are for transparency.” the woman said.

” Everything about our principle which is Peter Obi is for transparency. Everything that will happen now let it be transparent. If it’s 10 people that are duly registered let it be 10 people. If it’s 20 let them come. But before anything can happen, we need to be verified. No verification, no election!” the woman added.

The NDC, touted to be a breath of fresh air in the country’s political space, became the talk of the town following the defection of former Anambra governor, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor.

The defection of Obi and Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC boosted the ranks of the latter and pushed it from relative obscurity to the limelight.

Peter Obi, the face of the party, is considered a foil as a political actor in comparison with his fellow Nigerian counterparts.

However, with this allegation people in some quarters may consider revising their opinion of the NDC and perhaps that of Obi, too.
