2027: No Governors, No Problem, Obi Downplays Influence Of States’ Helmsmen In Electoral Victory

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed confidence in his capacity to defeat President Bola Tinubu at the polls in the 2027 general elections.

Obi noted that the number of governors in support of Tinubu’s re-election ambition across the state is inconsequential adding that he had none in 2023 and still gave the Nigeria’s helmsman a run for his money.

The former Anambra governor spoke at a recent interview in Washington DC,

He added that despite contesting the presidency on the platform of a fringe party like the Labour Party in 2023 he won in 12 states of the federation.

Obi stressed that the two other contestants who contested on the platforms of mainstream parties did not have more than the number of states he had.

“For the 2027 election, it doesn’t matter if all 36 governors are with President Tinubu. I didn’t have a single governor in the last election, yet I won 12 states, even after they stole two states from me.

“By making Abuja a state, we now have 37 states because that’s what the judgment of the Supreme Court showed.

“Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso won one state, and that was Kano. The APC, PDP and Labour Party won 12 states each. And it, I lost two by the process of rigging, I would have had 12 states,” he said.

Recall that Obi came third behind the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu.

As of today, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has 31 state governors while the opposition parties share the remaining 5 amongst themselves
