Zamfara Residents Jubilate As Police, Military Recover 329 Cattle, 175 Sheep, AK-47 During Joint Operation

Residents of Zamfara erupted in joy following a successful joint operation by officers of the state police and some military personnel.
The operation led to the recovery of 329 rustled cattle, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from the stronghold of bandits who are on the rampage in the state.
The Zamfara Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.
Abubakar noted that the security operatives executed the tactical operation around 2.00am on Saturday.
“On June 20, 2026, at about 2:30 a.m., operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, in collaboration with military personnel, carried out a tactical operation at Gambanda Forest in Gumi Local Government Area of the state.
“During the operation, the joint security team engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun duel.
“The superior firepower and tactical response of the operatives forced the criminals to flee into the forest with possible injuries, successfully repelling the attack.
“As a result of the operation, the security team recovered 329 rustled cattle, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.” the police spokesperson said
Abubakar said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Bello, commended the courage, professionalism and resilience displayed by the operatives.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ending banditry and restoring lasting peace across Zamfara State.
He urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that would aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
