The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has allocated huge swathes of land to members of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers and completing the bumper package with a waiver of all statutory fees for their land titles.
The minister noted that the decision was in line with directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While explaining the rationale behind the decision, Wike stressed that the president was of the opinion that it would be unfair to demand huge sums of money from traditional rulers who are indigenous to the FCT
“We cannot deny the fact that there are indigenous people who were here before the creation of the FCT.
“The President said we must extend a hand of fellowship to you. We must give honour to whom honour is due. If those who make peace cannot be appreciated with land, who should be?” Wike said while addressing the traditional rulers.
He continued, “The president has also said I should waive the payment of statutory fees. We cannot give you the task to go and look for money to pay,”
Wike also heaped praises on the tradition rulers for living up to expectations in ensuring what he described as the “most peaceful” Area Council elections in the territory’s history.
The minister promised the tradition rulers utility vehicles which according to him, “so that you will be able to carry out your duties as expected.”
