President Bola Tinubu has broken his silence on his preferred candidate to fly the flag of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) flag in the 2027 governorship race of Lagos State.

This is as Tinubu formally endorsed  Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos to succeed the state’s incumbent helmsman, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The president’s position was made known on Wednesday in a post by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy,

According to the statement,  Tinubu gave the endorsement during a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the State House, Abuja.

“President Tinubu formally endorses the Lagos APC consensus governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat at a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, led by Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” Onanuga wrote.

Recall that on Tuesday, GAC officially endorsed Hamzat as the party’s consensus candidate following a similar decision by Sanwo-Olu who on Monday raised his deputy hand and embraced him in a symbolic gesture of approval.

Sanwo-Olu also describing Hamzat as the “best man for the job”.
