Aminu Gwarzo, the governorship candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State has picked Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 election.
Mustapha Kwankwaso is the first son of the NDC vice presidential candidate, and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The decision was confirmed by the Spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, in a statement on Monday.
“HE Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo unveiled Hon Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate for the 2027 Governorship Election,” he said.
Mustapha will be looking forward to leveraging his father’s influence in Kano politics to wrest the reins of power from the incumbent governor of the state, Abba Yusuf.
Until recently, Yusuf was a godson of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and he rode to power on the ex-governor’s clout.
However, Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has caused a rift between him and his erstwhile political godfather.
Meanwhile, Musa Kwankwaso recently said he had not shut the door of reconciliation against Yusuf adding that the governor was not chased out of the National Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) whose loyalists have defected to the NDC
