As part of measures to prevent the recurrence of the unfortunate incident that happened in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the recruitment of at least 1,000 forest guards.
Also approved by Tinubu to forestal the kidnapping in the state is the deployment of a special rescue team.
The Nigeria’s helmsman made these rapid-fire decisions following the abduction of teachers and students of schools located in Yawota and Ahoro-esinele communities of the Local Government.
This was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.
“As part of immediate measures to strengthen security in the area, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State in collaboration with the state government.
“The delegation also informed community leaders and lawmakers that their request for the establishment of a military base in the area would be conveyed to the President for consideration and approval,” the statement read in part.
The move comes on the heels of the visit by a Federal Government delegation visited to the Esinele and Yawota communities following the abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School on May 15, 2026.
Tinubu also ordered a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The delegation was led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
They conveyed President Tinubu’s deep concern over the incident and his commitment to securing the safe return of the victims.
The delegation’s visit came barely 48 hours after the governor of the state, Seyi Makinde, met with the families of the victims of the abduction.
However, there are no reports that Makinde welcomed the delegation to the state or that federal government’s representatives visited the Agodi seat of power in Ibadan to inform the governor of their presence in the state being the Chief Security Officer of the pacesetter state.
