Tension In Ogun As Gunmen ‘Abduct Residents’, Kill Soldiers

Fear has gripped the people of  Mowe  and other communities in Ogun State  following attacks by gunmen on some residents in the areas.

Peoplestemplate gathered that the attack happened at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido area of Mowe and that a soldier was killed during the incident.

According to the Nation Newspaper  the assailants allegedly abducted several residents in Karanla community before they were confronted by soldiers.

The sources quoted by the publication claimed that the gunmen’s target was an expatriate working at the site who narrowly escaped being kidnapped.

Reacting to the incident, Oluseyi Babaseyi, public relations officer of the Ogun state police command, dismissed the insinuation that the attack was a bandit operation.

Babaseyi stressed that, contrary to the information making the rounds, the attack was an “isolated criminal attack”.

The Ogun command PRO stated this in a statement issued on Monday.

“Regrettably, a soldier on security duty lost his life during the incident, while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment,” the report reads.

“Following the report, Police operatives, in collaboration with the Military, swiftly mobilized to the area and commenced coordinated operations to apprehend those responsible.

“Preliminary findings do not indicate any connection between the incident and banditry activities. Investigations and tactical operations remain ongoing.”

The command assured residents that “the situation is under control”, security presence has been reinforced, and there is no cause for alarm.
