There’s Only One PDP… No Factions, Says Wike Ahead Of Nat’l Convention
By Olumuyiwa Olumuyiwa
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) remains a single entity adding that he is unaware of factions jostling against each other for legitimacy in the party.
Wike spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while interacting with newsmen after inspecting some ongoing projects across the nation’s capital.
He stated that what the PDP is going through is not unexpected in a political organization stressing that “it is not unusual” for some individuals to feel dissatisfied about developments in their fold.
The minister added the party was making all efforts to put its house in order ahead of its national convention slated for March 29 and 30.
He, however, clarified that holding the convention does not necessarily preclude reconciliation, adding that discussions could continue after the convention.
“That there is convention, doesn’t mean there will be no reconciliation. Convention will go on; everything has its own time.
“Regarding whether any group has reached out, I must say that I am not aware of any separate camp. There’s only one PDP. So it would be wrong for me to say the other camp.
“I don’t know whether any other camp exists. As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP and it will be incorrect to suggest otherwise.” Wike said.
Wike noted that the party primaries were scheduled to commence from April 23 to May 13 in accordance with the Electoral Act and the Independent Electoral Commission’s guidelines.
“This timeline leaves little room for delays,” he said.
