Atiku, Amaechi Hold Closed-door Meeting Ahead Of 2027 Showdown
By Akanni Toba
As the preparations for the 2027 general elections, particularly the presidential race, intensify, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, met with ex-governor, Rotimi Amaechi, behind closed doors.
Though details of the meeting have not been made available to the public, the meeting may not be unconnected to how the two political actors could work together, by using the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), towards the realization of their dreams
Atiku and Amaechi are two of the leading president aspirants in the ADC vying for the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
The third formidable presidential aspirants in the ADC is the ex-Anambra governor, Peter Obi, who ran for the highest political office of the land in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
Both Amaechi and Obi are from the southern zone of the country while Atiku is from the Northern region.
The sitting president, Bola Tinubu, who by 2027 would have completed a four-year single term, is from the south.
There is an agreement, unwritten though, that a zone must spend two terms of eight years, barring expedient circumstances, in the presidency.
Peter Obi once promised to use a single term to complete Southern region term, part of which Tinubu has used.
