Oyo: One Dead, Four Sustain Gunshot Injuries As Bandits Attack Kishi, Igbeti, Others

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have been on the rampage in some of the towns sharing boundaries with the Northern part of the country.

Peoplestemplate gathered that the suspected bandits, in what appears to well-coordinated attacks, have killed at least one person around the Igbeti-Kishi Old Oyo Reserve and the Igbeti-Igboho axis.

According to reports, the attacks occurred on Friday, June 12, and continued into Saturday, with heavily armed men dressed in military camouflage opening fire on travellers.

In the Friday operation, one man simply identified as Kayode (aka Sir Kay) was shot dead along the Kishi-Igbeti road.

Kayode is said to be a worker at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The deceased was returning home in a vehicle that had gone to pick up a pilgrim who had just completed the 2026 Hajj exercise when the gunmen struck.

The gunmen continued their operations on Saturday afternoon along the Igbope-Igbeti section of the road.

Disguised in military fatigues, the armed men ambushed motorists, targeting a red Volkswagen Golf saloon car and a commercial passenger bus.

Peoplestemplate gathered that four occupants of the Golf car sustained serious gunshot injuries, including the driver, Alhaji Rafiu Jimoh, and Mr. Jubril Jelili .

The victims managed to drive back to Igboho for emergency treatment.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State has visited the affected towns to assess the security situation in the areas,

Residents of Kishi, Igboho and Igbeti are demanding immediate, sustained tactical military and police deployments to clear the forest reserves of criminal elements who are using the vast terrain as a base for their operations .

The Old Oyo National Park, located between Kishi and Igbeti, has become a haven for bandits.

Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday stated that the abducted schoolchildren and teachers from the Oriire Local Government Area of the state are currently being held hostage within the park .

The forest corridor has become a major infiltration route for armed groups fleeing military operations in the North .

Speaking during his visit to Kishí, the Deputy Governor urged local government council chairmen in the Oke-Ogun zone to collaborate with the state government to safeguard the areas against terrorist attacks.

Meanwhile the recent attacks have thrown Kishi town into mourning while residents of neighbouring communities are now living in fear.
