By Olumuyiwa Olumuyiwa

A former Director of Defence Information, Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, has reportedly been killed in captivity by his abductors.

According to reports, the sad development was confirmed on Saturday by the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa,

“Security authorities had received information indicating that the retired military officer was killed by his abductors” Danmusa was quoted to have said.

However, he noted that security operatives are yet to recover his body as efforts are ongoing to locate the remains.

Recall that Major General Abubakar and his wife were abducted by armed bandits along the Matazu axis of Katsina State on May 30 while travelling through the area.

After languishing in their abductors’ den for days, the bandits requested the release of their gang members in detention across Katsina state and their livestock as part of ransom to secure the release of the couple.
Prior to the announcement of his death, a viral video showed Rabe covering what appeared to be a gunshot wound in one of his legs with leaves.
The retired general might have died from the gunshot wound due to lack of adequate treatment.
