The presidency has taunted former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, over defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The reaction of the presidency was contained in a statement issued on X by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu.

According to the statement, the presidency described Obi as a “political nomad” and a “jelly”  politician  who is so spineless to contest with other aspirants to secure the sole presidential ticket.

.

The statement added that Obi is “an opportunistic fellow” who takes the easy way out of a difficult situation instead of confronting it.

“The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob,” Onanuga wrote.

“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC.”

“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race,” Onanuga added.

The presidential aide said that Obi had taken “the easy road that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023”.

Obi had barely spent five months in the coalition-backed ADC before announcing his exit.

Recall that in March 7, Obi of the LP defected to the ADC like other prominent politicians from other opposition parties.

Obi obtained  his membership card at Agulu ward 2 in Anaocha LGA of Anambra.

The purpose of the coalition is to wrest the reins of power from Tinubu in 2027

However, speculations became rife on Saturday that Obi and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had finalized plans to exit ADC.

Meanwhile,  in a statement on Sunday, Obi confirmed he is quitting the party over “endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division”.

Obi said “the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced” him to leave “now appear to be finding their way into the ADC”.
